MUGELLO MARATHON REGULATION
A.S.D. MARATONA MUGELLO, in cooperation with the Municipal Administration of Borgo San Lorenzo (FI), organizes the road running athletics event included in the FIDAL National Calendar, named the 52nd MUGELLO MARATHON – The Oldest Marathon in Italy.
EVENT SCHEDULE
The event will take place on Sunday, September 27, 2026 in Borgo San Lorenzo (FI)
Meeting point: 7:00 a.m. in Piazza Dante (in front of the Town Hall)
Start time: 9:15 a.m.
COURSE DETAILS
The competition will be held over the following distance:
Men: 42.195 km (FIDAL certified)
Women: 42.195 km (FIDAL certified)
Art.1 PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
The event is open to male and female athletes born in 2006 or earlier, provided they fully comply with the current Italian Health Regulations governing competitive sports participation (Ministerial Decree of 18/02/1982, Official Gazette 05/03/1982, and supplementary Ministerial Decree of 28/02/1983, Official Gazette 15/03/1983), and therefore hold a valid medical certificate of fitness for competitive athletics valid through September 27, 2026. Specifically, the mandatory requirements to register by September 24, 2026 (and with increased entry fees also on Saturday, September 26 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, September 27 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.) are listed below.
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS FOR ATHLETES NOT REGISTERED IN ITALY
Italian and foreign athletes not registered in Italy may participate, limited to individuals aged 20 years and over (calendar year age), provided they meet one of the following requirements:

Athletes holding a membership card with clubs affiliated to Foreign Athletics Federations recognized by WA. Upon registration, they must alternatively provide a self-declaration certifying possession of a membership card recognized by WA. The self-declaration must subsequently be signed in original form when collecting the race bib.

Athletes holding a Runcard (valid as sports insurance and authorization to compete), limited to individuals aged 20 years and over; participation is subject, in addition to possession of the "RUNCARD":
a) to the presentation of a valid medical certificate for competitive athletics, which must be shown in its original form to the organizers and retained as a copy in the records of the organizing club for each event. For foreign non-resident athletes, the medical certificate may be issued in their own country, provided that the same examinations required by Italian law have been carried out:
a) medical examination; b) complete urinalysis; c) resting and exercise electrocardiogram; d) spirometry.
IMPORTANT – Participation is subject to the presentation of a medical certificate for competitive athletics valid in Italy. Athletes may submit a medical certificate issued in their country of residence, provided it complies with the diagnostic examinations required under Italian regulations for participation in competitive sports. The medical certificate must be presented in its original form at registration and must be completed, signed, and stamped by the certifying physician.
Medical certificate templates differing from those indicated below will not be accepted.

Foreign athletes not registered with any federation: within the competitive event framework, participation may also be authorized exclusively for foreign citizens not registered with any federation in the non-competitive section for sports-tourism purposes, limited to individuals aged 18 years and over (calendar year age: 2008). As specified in the explanatory note of the Italian Ministry of Health dated 17/06/2015 regarding the Ministry of Health Decree of 08/08/2014, foreign citizens are not required to provide a medical certificate but must sign a liability waiver (download and complete the document) in favor of the organizers. These participants will be included in a separate alphabetical order of finish distinct from the official competitive rankings and will not be eligible for prizes in kind, cash prizes, vouchers, bonuses, appearance fees, or expense reimbursements of any kind.
Art.2 COURSE
The race will be held on the following FIDAL-certified course:
START Borgo San Lorenzo (Piazza Dante), SP.551 towards Vicchio, Vicchio, Ponte a Vicchio, SP.41 towards Borgo San Lorenzo, Sagginale, SR.302 Via Faentina, Serravalle area, SP.97 Cardetole area, San Piero a Sieve, SP.503 towards Scarperia, Scarperia, SP.42 Via Buozzi (adjacent to Mugello Circuit), Luco di Mugello, Borgo San Lorenzo (Piazza Dante) – FINISH Total distance 42.195 km.
The course will be fully marked on the road surface with a continuous green line from start to finish; the entire route will be partially closed to traffic or otherwise subject to limited traffic whenever possible. All athletes are required to comply with the Italian Highway Code.
Art.3 TIME LIMIT
The official Marathon time limit is six hours and thirty minutes (6:30).
Art.4 MEETING POINT AND SERVICES
The meeting point is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Piazza Dante (in front of the Town Hall) in Borgo San Lorenzo (FI). The race will start promptly at 9:15 a.m. in the same Piazza Dante.
The square will host the Marathon Expo Area featuring informational and commercial booths; medical assistance will be provided by P.A. Centro Radio Soccorso of Borgo San Lorenzo. Changing rooms will be available in a protected area (unattended), together with a supervised bag storage service. After the finish (also in Piazza Dante), with boarding immediately behind the finish line, a shuttle service will be available to transport athletes to the Municipal Service Center (showers and facilities), located approximately 600 meters from the finish area.
Art.5 REGISTRATION PROCEDURE AND BIB COLLECTION
Athletes meeting the requirements set forth in Art.1 may register according to the deadlines and fees indicated below.

ONLINE ENDU (https://www.endu.net/en/events/maratona-del-mugello-2/) by carefully completing the registration form, paying particular attention to all mandatory membership and privacy consent fields, and by uploading either the competitive medical certificate or the Liability Waiver Form in the designated field, selecting the preferred payment method and completing the online payment of the entry fee.

ONLINE PAYMENT by credit card/PayPal/bank transfer through the Sofort circuit (any transaction fees are charged to the participant. Online registration service fees are not included in the entry fees listed below).

Race bibs and race packs may be collected during the above-mentioned hours at the Registration Point in Piazza Dante.
To authorize another person to collect the race bib and race pack, the registered athlete must accurately complete the authorization form available for download at the following link: AUTHORIZATION FORM.
Art.6 CATEGORIES
Registered athletes will be divided into the following categories:
Senior Men/Women up to 1977 (inclusive) – Veteran Men/Women from 1967 to 1976 – Silver Men/Women born in 1966 and earlier.
Art.7 PACERS
The Organization will provide participants with official pacer groups whose task will be to run the marathon at a steady pace in order to finish within the following target times:
3:30 hours Light Blue; 3:45 hours Orange; 4:00 hours Pink; 4:15 hours White; 4:30 hours Blue; 5:00 hours Purple
Art.8 TIMING AND RESULTS
Official timing and results processing will be managed by Evodata ENDU and validated by the FIDAL Technical Delegate Judge/Appeals Judge.
Art.9 CHECKPOINTS AND DISQUALIFICATIONS
Visible checkpoints (with chip timing mats) and additional hidden checkpoints will be established along the course.
Any participant who deviates from the official course, uses mechanical assistance, or fails to display their race bib clearly will be disqualified. The FIDAL Race Officials Panel (GGG) will monitor the course and may disqualify athletes who fail to pass through the designated timing checkpoints.
Art.10 SPECIFIC RULES REGARDING DISQUALIFICATIONS AND APPEALS
Athletes are prohibited from being accompanied by non-participating runners on foot or by bicycle, under penalty of immediate disqualification. Running alongside or with an animal on a leash is also prohibited, in accordance with the relevant FIDAL circular. The presence of any animal alongside an athlete may constitute a violation of WA Rule 144.2 and be considered unauthorized assistance. Furthermore, the presence of animals during a race may conflict with Rule 51 concerning athlete safety.
Italian legislation regarding animal protection (Law 281/1991), animal mistreatment (Law 189/2004), and the penalties provided under Article 544 of the Italian Criminal Code shall also apply.
Any protest must be submitted to the FIDAL Race Officials Panel (GGG) within 30 minutes of the announcement/posting of the result and accompanied by a €100.00 deposit, which will be refunded if the protest is upheld.
Art.11 REFRESHMENT STATIONS
The Mugello Marathon will take place regardless of weather conditions. Throughout the course, participants will have access to assistance and numerous refreshment stations managed by volunteer staff wearing protective gloves and operating in compliance with the health regulations in force on the date of the event. Help us reduce plastic waste by disposing of bottles and cups only in the designated collection areas located near the refreshment stations. Athletes may carry their own nutrition and hydration supplies, including energy bars, gels, electrolyte supplements, sponges, and personal hydration bottles. Medical assistance will be guaranteed throughout the course and in the Finish Area, including emergency first-aid services. A post-race massage service will also be available.
Art.12 PARTICIPATION SPECIFICATIONS
Each participant will be provided with a race bib incorporating a personal disposable timing chip used for intermediate timing points and official rankings. The race bib envelope will contain only information necessary for participation in the event (not advertising materials; therefore athletes are kindly requested to read all contents carefully) together with vouchers for collecting the race pack prizes, which must be collected before the start. The registered athlete is responsible for the ownership and safekeeping of the race bib and thereby acquires the right to benefit from all services described in these regulations and subsequently communicated by the Organization.
a) Anyone participating without proper registration and without a race bib, in addition to being held liable for any damage caused to persons or property, including themselves, shall be subject to sporting sanctions imposed by the competent federal bodies and may also incur criminal and administrative penalties where applicable.
b) Anyone participating without proper registration using a counterfeit race bib or a bib not assigned to them shall, in addition to the liabilities described above, incur sporting sanctions and may also be subject to criminal and administrative penalties where applicable.
In the cases referred to in points a) and b), participants may also be subject to penalties for the offense of “Failure to Comply with Orders Issued by Authorities” (Article 650 of the Italian Criminal Code).
The above-mentioned violations may be established exclusively through photographic and/or video evidence.
Art.13 ENTRY DEFERRAL – TRANSFER OF RACE BIB TO ANOTHER ATHLETE
Registration fees paid by athletes who are unable to participate due to personal reasons are non-refundable; however, entry may be deferred for a maximum of one edition upon written request sent by email to maratonamugello@gmail.com no later than seven (7) days before the event. The request must explain the reason for deferral and include any relevant medical documentation. Any additional services purchased (e.g. SMS service or photo service) are neither refundable nor transferable.
In the following year, when submitting the new registration documentation, a €10.00 administration fee must be paid (ASD Maratona Mugello – IBAN: IT 82 N 08325 37751 0000 00042313).

For athletes who are already registered, in the event of a subsequent inability to participate, it will be possible to transfer the race bib to another athlete who meets the participation requirements, provided the request is submitted no later than September 14.
The request and all updated documentation must be sent directly to ENDU Evodata exclusively via email to: mugellomarathon@evodata.it clearly specifying the transfer request and providing all necessary information.
Art.14 CANCELLATION OF THE EVENT
Should the race be cancelled, postponed to another date, or otherwise not take place due to causes beyond the control and/or responsibility of the Organizers, including withdrawal of authorization by the competent Public Authorities, participants shall not be entitled to claim any compensation from Maratona Mugello or any co-organizer, including reimbursement of expenses already incurred or to be incurred. Submission of the registration form shall also constitute an explicit waiver of any claim for damages, indemnification, reimbursement, restoration, or compensation for any financial loss suffered or to be suffered. The Organization will evaluate the possibility of reimbursing only the registration fee (excluding any ancillary costs) or offering a free transfer of registration to the following year's event.
Art.15 PRIZE MONEY
On race day, the first five overall men and the first five overall women, as well as the first three Veteran Men/Women (see categories in Art.6), will be awarded on the official podium with a Trophy, Cup and/or equivalent prizes.
The total cash prize fund for the event amounts to €2,680.00 and is distributed as follows:

Cash prizes will be awarded in accordance with WA regulations and Italian law. The prize fund reserved for Italian athletes and “equivalent Italian athletes” (equal to 25% of the total prize fund), awarded according to finishing position, may be combined with the overall prize fund. For marathon-distance races, as provided by FIDAL regulations, the prize fund dedicated to Italian athletes may not be awarded for performances slower than 2h30'00 for men and 2h55'00 for women. Cash prizes will be paid within a maximum of 30 days after the race, only upon presentation of a receipt for COMPENSATION FOR AMATEUR SPORTS ACTIVITY (pursuant to Art. 67, paragraph 1, letter m), Presidential Decree 917/86). The compensation form will be provided to the athlete during the awards ceremony and must be completed accurately in all its parts and returned immediately or subsequently sent by email to maratonamugello@gmail.com.
After 30 days, should the athlete fail to submit the correctly completed form, the prize will no longer be awarded. No cash prize (or equivalent benefit such as vouchers, bonuses, appearance fees, or expense reimbursements of any kind) may be awarded to holders of a Runcard or Runcard EPS.
For the five largest teams registered by Wednesday, September 24, 2026, the following expense reimbursements are provided:

Any appeals must be submitted in accordance with FIDAL and R.T.I. regulations.
Art.16 MEDICAL SERVICE, ASSISTANCE AND SAFETY PLAN
The Organizing Committee will provide an adequate medical assistance service along the course and in the start/finish areas.
Athletes who become injured or decide to withdraw from the event may board a vehicle following the race, which will transport them to the finish area. A medical ambulance service following the race is also provided. The Organizing Committee will implement an appropriate medical and safety plan in compliance with current regulations and in cooperation with Local Authorities, Law Enforcement Agencies, Civil Protection, CRS Centro Radio Soccorso and Misericordie organizations. All procedures concerning athlete reception, race bib collection, start procedures and finish procedures will be adapted to any conditions resulting from the general public health situation.
Art.17 DECLARATION OF RESPONSIBILITY
By signing the registration form, the participant declares that he/she has read and accepted the Mugello Marathon regulations published on the website www.maratonamugello.it, as well as the health protection regulations governing athletics as provided by Ministerial Decree of 18/02/1982 (Official Gazette 05/03/1982) and supplementary Ministerial Decree of 28/02/1983 (Official Gazette 15/03/1983), and that he/she will be at least 20 years of age on September 27, 2026. The participant also expressly declares, under his/her own responsibility, not only that all information provided is truthful (Art. 2 of Law No. 15 of 04/01/1968 as amended by Art. 3, paragraph 10 of Law No. 127 of 15/05/1997), but also releases the organizers from any civil and criminal liability for damage to persons and/or property caused by or suffered by the participant.
Art.18 PRIVACY
Pursuant to Legislative Decree No. 196 of June 30, 2003 (“Personal Data Protection Code”), participants are informed that the personal data collected will be used exclusively for preparing the participants’ list, official rankings, historical archives, providing the services described in these regulations, and sending informational or promotional material relating to the Mugello Marathon and its partners. IMAGE RIGHTS
By signing the registration form for the 52nd edition of the Mugello Marathon, the participant expressly authorizes the Organization, free of charge, to use still and/or moving images portraying his/her likeness. This authorization is granted indefinitely and without territorial limitation for use in printed publications and audiovisual media, including, by way of example and without limitation, promotional and advertising materials produced on any type of medium.
The Organization may also transfer the rights granted under this agreement to its institutional and commercial partners.
Art.19 FINAL PROVISIONS
ASD Maratona Mugello reserves the right to amend these regulations at any time for reasons deemed appropriate for the improved organization of the event, after communicating such changes and obtaining approval from FIDAL.
For any matters not expressly covered by these regulations, the technical and statutory rules of FIDAL and the FIDAL Race Officials Group (G.G.G.) shall apply. Any changes regarding services, locations, and schedules will be duly communicated to registered athletes or published on the website www.maratonamugello.it. Furthermore, documentation containing the essential information required to participate in the race will be provided by the Organization together with the race bib.
